I suppose Piety has a christendom ring from which the WTS has wanted to be differenciated, so they contrived Godly devotion, or is it that they are afraid JWs are too ignorant to understand what Piety means ?

Peculiar NWT rendering: System of Things
by Athanasius inthis morning at church i read the new testament lesson, which was ephesians 1:15-23, from the new revised standard version bible.
verse 20-21 says:.
"god put this power to work in christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, (21) far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come.".

I can't believe that someone could read, post, and think about what they're reading here for months and still believe the JWs are right.

As a formal JW, still attending the WE meeting with my wife, getting my 3 copies of each mag, not preaching but still considered as a -fringe- brother, I come here to get information and share independent thoughts, which I prefer when expressed by non hateful posters, although I understand bitter feelings from those who have had their childhood somehow crippled by the WTS stand on education, and I believe that JWs approach what I accept as truth, or at least suits me. I mean, how many denominations teach one unique god, no hellfire, hope of paradise earth ? I used to be a practicing catholic for the first 30 years of my life and find myself more confortable with the JW creed. That doesn't mean I accept their shortcomings, I just haven't found a safer hole. Here you have a certain sort of JWD JW.

I'm one of those anonymous readers who enjoyed reading your best of on JWD, as you are famous even on this side. Now, if you think that your heyday is behind and you have yielded your best, just know that you're not the only one in this situation, great poet and troubadour Georges Brassens, not short of ideas as he was, would say that people, and himself for one, have one or two ideas and exploit them during the rest of their lifes, c'est la vie. Hang in there, we like you on JWD.

well during his press conference the other day he said he wants to rescue a dog.
i know one of his girls is allergic to pet dander, so they need a hypoallergenic dog .. but the fact that he wants to adopt a dog to me indicates that he is a man of the people.

What I like with Obama is Michele. Although she's not elected, I'm sure she will do her utmost to bind politics in a way that will bring improvement to the working class condition and those whom prosperity has forgotten.

Marechal FOCH, who was the commander in chief of the allied armies when they gave the decisive thrust to victory in 1918 reckoned "hadn't the Americans come to help, we could never have made it". Thanks to the American, Canadian, Australian, New Zelander, African and Indian boys who had nothing to do with that war and still came to die for the allied nations in European trenches.

Daniel's 69 and 70 week prophecy
by digderidoo ini have been told by a jw that 36ce ends daniels 70 week prophecy, how do they work this out?.
i know the starting point is 455bce, but could someone elaborate?
the guy has stated it as matter of fact, it sort of smells like the 1914 prophecy to me, but may be i'm wrong.. paul.

In Daniel 9 : 24-27, 70 weeks (they calculate 7 x 70 = 490 years) are prophecied between the word to rebuild Jerusalem (- 455) and the end of the time the covenant has been kept in force (baptism of Cornelius, + 36) .
From Daniel 5 : 23 - 26, they understand that there are 7 times between the fall of Jerusalem (they say - 607) and God appointing Jesus as king in 1914 : On the basis of 360 day years, They (Fred FRANZ did) calculate 7 x 360 = 2520 years. 607 + 1914 - 1 (year zero thing) = 2520. Don't ask why they switch from 360 day years to 365 day years...
If those 7 times were calculated out of 365 day years, and assuming we keep the - 607 date as the start of the period of time, we would get 7 x 365 = 2555 years, and 1914 would become 1949 (607 + 1949 - 1 = 2555) as the beginning of the last days ! and if we agree with historians who say that Jerusalem fell in - 587, the last days began in 1969...
Just add 120 years to make room for anti typical Noah's days and you expect ARMAGEDDON FOR 2089, or 2069 (about the date Issac NEWTON foresaw) if you stick to - 607.

You can effect a Tipping Point.....
by sweet pea inplease prove to me i'm not posting in the graveyard shift....... besty and i were talking about password protected and family's exit this last few weeks.
we are full of admiration for the way that they have left with dignity and obviously made many think.
they have not faded, they had a good repuation until the very last moment - mark was an elder - but they stopped and made the decision to be up front and face the elders in a meeting.

I'm already quite satisfied having kept my two teenage children from being trapped in the WT organization, and my wife is not keen on attending midweek meetings without me, although I told her I will accompany her if she wants to attend. We still attend WE meetings, sort of weekly worship, not feeling comfortable with it, because we find we need to practice a christian religion and I've not seen a credible alternative so far. We also want to be able to say Hello and have a chat with JWs we come across on the street and occasionally have a cup of coffee or a meal with the few of them who may pop in our home. Each one manages his/her own parameters.
